With the discovery of recombinant DNA technology genetic engineering is considered the most important and revolutionary science. Various genetically modified products are in common use like BT cotton, rice, and much more. Genetically modified tomatoes can enable L-Dupa’s naturally fast delivery, a coliform drug, to developing countries.
Also, side effects such as drowsiness and behavioral changes can be eliminated by taking L-dopa directly. Tomatoes are grown worldwide. Now L. dopa, which is naturally present in beetroot colors, is genetically quickly produced in tomatoes. For this, the gene of L. dopa has been extracted from beetroot and added to tomatoes.
Scientists at the John Nineteen Center in the UK have inserted the gene that synthesizes L. dopa into a tomato. In this way, tomatoes can be rich in L-dopa and have the potential to become an Alzheimer’s drug with food. Thus, up to 150 mg of L-dopa can be produced in one kilogram of tomatoes, and it does not affect the plants and fruits.
But eating so many tomatoes is not an easy task, and so in the next step, the medicine will be taken from tomatoes rich in L-dopa in a safe way, and it will be made into a cheap and fast medicine. In this way, the price of L-dopa can be reduced, and it can reach the poor. Interestingly, genetic tomatoes with L. dopa can be grown in a typical greenhouse.
It is hoped that this will enable lower cost and faster production of L-dopa. Even in a country like Africa, a local factory will be able to produce it efficiently. The L-dopa mixture dissolves easily and is very easy to dissolve in pure form. It should be noted that Parkinson’s drug costs two dollars a day, but patients in developing countries cannot afford it. L-dopamine is a type of amino acid that is a precursor to a chemical called dopamine. Patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s have low levels of dopamine, which L-dopa makes up for.
