Ebola Virus

Ebola Virus is one of the deadliest viruses of this era. It is a rarely occurring virus but has adverse side effects. Due to the severity of this virus, its treatment is always under the concern of researchers. Now Researcher found the Ebola virus vaccine.

It always occurs in the form of outbreaks mainly in the African continent. There are 6 different strains of the Ebola virus. And only four are involved in the occurrence of disease.

Ebola virus is dangerous both for human and nonhuman primates. There was no specific treatment for the Ebola virus previously.

Only experimented treatments were being developed. But now FDA approved the treatment for the Ebola virus.

History of Ebola Virus:

The history of the Ebola virus is very unique. Ebola was first time discovered in 1976 near the Ebola river.

This river is now in the democratic republic of Congo. This virus now causes severe disease from time to time in different regions of the African continent.

Initially, no one knows about the origin of this virus. But like other viruses, researchers consider that it may be originated from animal sources.

The mode of transmission of this virus is quite similar to other viruses. It spread through direct contact, blood transfusion, body fluids, and tissues of animals. In this way, it infects other people.

Normally the incubation period of the Ebola virus is 14 to 21 days. Its symptoms vary from nonspecific flu to fever, headache, myalgia, and malaise.

The infection can lead to severe bleeding and coagulation abnormalities such as gastrointestinal bleeding, rash, and different hematological abnormalities.

This virus can also spread through sexual contact. And maybe present in the semen of the recovered patient for some time.

Initially, it was considered that the Ebola virus was not spread through food. But now the reports show that the Ebola virus spread through the handling of wild animal meat and improperly cooked meat.

Mode of infection:

The virus strongly attacks people with the immunosuppressive immune system. And also the aged ones.

Sometimes it happens that the Ebola virus shielded from the immune system of the survivor. As it shielded in certain areas like testes, the interior of the eye, placenta, and central nervous system.

Its presence in the survivor’s placenta might damage the baby inside the mother’s womb. If someones show the symptoms of the Ebola virus, he/she must isolate themselves for several days.

And informed the health care authorities. For the confirmation of infection, the required sample is blood. It is present in the blood after completion of the incubation period.

These all indicate the severity of the disease. it causes many side effects to the Ebola virus survivors like tiredness, muscle fatigue, and continuous headache.

Moreover keeping in view the adversity and severity of infection, it has become necessary for the researchers to develop a proper treatment.

Experimented treatments need to stop now. As it concerned with the lives of different individuals.

Now recently researchers have developed a proper treatment for Ebola virus disease. FDA approved this treatment.

Approved treatment of EbolaVirus by the FDA:

It revolutionized the history of treatment. Now it becomes possible to decrease the mortality rate of the Ebola virus in different African countries, and also throughout the world.

The pharmaceutical company Regeneron developed antibodies in the lab for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with Ebola.

The U.S announced this news. Food and Drug Administration on the 14th of October 2020.

FDA gives permission for a project to develop an Ebola vaccine. And the results come in less than a year after the project has been signed.

An immunologist Erica Ollaman says “This is the big development” at the La Jolla Institute for immunology in Sian Deigo, Calif.

Ebola virus is very dangerous. It causes fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding. The first outbreak of this disease has occurred in the 1970s which killed approximately 25 to 90 percent of the infected patients.

Different therapies have used for Ebola treatment like replacing lost fluids.

This announcement now clear it that approved treatment for Ebola is now developed. In Congo, different trials have conducted from the time period of 2018- 2019.

The evaluation of Inmazeb has done with three other experimental treatments in these trials.

After trial, a comparison has developed and it shows that 33.8% of people treated with inmazeb died after 28 days. 51% were those who received a different treatment.

This drug has designed by mimicking human antibodies. Which are produced in our defense system. It consists of three monoclonal antibodies.

One antibody prevents the structure of the Ebola virus that allows infiltrating human cells. Further, the rest of the two engage the immune cells to eliminate the virus and different infected cells.

Researcher opinion:

Saphire, says that given the drug’s two-pronged approach to fighting the virus, “the Regeneron cocktail is exactly the sort of complementary approach our research predicted would be most efficacious.”

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is a major financial supporter of the Society for Science & the Public, which publishes Science News.) who heads a research consortium focused on studying antibody treatments for Ebola Meanwhile Inmazeb is given intravenously.

By using full protocol this drug has been used in the Congo Ebola outbreak. Saphire says “this drug will remove all the hurdles”.

Finally, this drug will be easily available to the local doctors and medical aid groups. Regeneron and U.S Biomedical Advanced Research and development authority sign an agreement in July that the company would produce inmazeb for the national stockpile over the next six years.

Precautionary measures:

This announcement brings the wave of happiness in African countries because most of the outbreak occurs in Africa.

Moreover, the development of this drug reduces the mortality rate of the virus. Besides all these treatments one thing which we all have to adopt is the precautions.

We can prevent ourselves from this deadly virus by following precautionary measures. These precautionary measures are as follows.

Avoiding the area of a known outbreak such as wash hands properly, avoid wild meat, avoid direct contact with the infected people lastly does not handle remains.

Furthermore, The center for disease control and prevention recommends PAPRs and N95 respirators. Because It is used as the first line of defense against the infectious virus.
